EIC Awarded ISO/TS16949 Certification
Discrete semiconductor manufacturer EIC has been awarded the prestigious ISO/TS16949 certification, which defines quality system requirements for the automotive industry. Customers can now have added confidence that EIC fully complies with the rigorous quality, of both products and manufacturing procedures, required by automotive applications.
EIC has been supplying products into the automotive industry for many years. Until now, EIC has concentrated on meeting or exceeding individual customer quality requirements. ISO/TS16949 was introduced in 2002 to combine quality system standards from the largest automotive companies into one international standard. Automotive standards are much more stringent than those widely used in other applications due to the wide range of temperature needed (-65oC to 175oC) and the consequence of system failure in a vehicle. For the past year, EIC has constantly been assessed to ensure that its factories are fully able to meet this demanding standard, culminating in certification in December 2007.

EIC launches Ultra Fast Rectifier series
Discrete semiconductor manufacturer EIC is now offering the UG2x family of ultra fast rectifiers. These products have a recovery time of maximum 15ns and are therefore ideal for use in switch mode power supplies, coverters and inverter circuits. The introduction of this family gives designers and purchasers the security of a second source from a high quality supplier, with typical leadtimes of 3-5 weeks.
Ultra Fast rectifiers offer a significant increase in recovery time in comparison with standard Super Fast rectifiers, a majority of which have Trr of 35ns. This speed, together with a voltage drop of less than 1V, result in low switching losses and very high efficiency. According to Mr Withaya Chakphet, Managing Director for EIC, the introduction of this family represents the next step by EIC to offer the widest selection of high performance diodes. Glass passivated chips are used to guarantee long term quality and reliability.
Development of EIC’s UG2x family was driven by a manufacturer of air conditioners, who are facing the challenge of improving efficiency due to environmental concerns. The parts are used in the DC-AC inverter that allows the unit to continuously regulate its thermal flow at different speeds, and react swifty and economically to changes in outside temperature. This family is also ideally suited as a free wheeling diode in telecom, consumer and computer applications where it prevents damage to switching devices and eliminates unwanted radiation.

Industry thinnest M1A package launched
EIC is pleased to announce the release of a range of diodes in a new axial M1A package. This small, unique package offers the lowest height on the market and is ideal for applications where size and weight are an issue. Glass passivated chips will be used in this package to give the additional benefit of long term quality and reliability.
The M1A package was developed as a response to requirements from a manufacturer of LCD Televisions. Mr Adisak, Product Developer at EIC said ‘The challenge for LCD TV suppliers is to increase picture resolution to compete with plasma screens, whilst keeping the screen slim and light enough to be wall mounted. This requires additional components to be squeezed into a very tight area and even small reductions in component height can have a significant impact on the overall design’. The M1A package, together with EIC’s reputation for producing high quality components, made it an ideal choice for this application.
The first family to be offered in this package is the 1Sxx family of Schottky Barrier Rectifiers, and will soon be followed by 1 to 2W Zeners and a range of Super Fast Recovery Rectifiers.
